"Therefore, my Beloved Brethren,
be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not vain in the Lord"

         Shooting Straight
         For The Heart!

Heidi's Corner
Written by Heidi Gunn

Paul wrote in Ephesians 2:10, "We are God's workmanship."

When we begin to see the abrasive people in our life through the eyes of God, as His workmanship, our relationships will foreverchange. Think about it! God sent His only Son to die for your sins. Wow!Take that truth one step further. God also sent His only son to die for that person you find so difficult to love. Is that hard for youto fathom? Well, believe it or not, you may be that abrasive or difficult person to someone else. Yes, he died for all of us. Even the hard to love ones...

Let's be honest. Some people are simply more difficult to get along with than others. They "rub us the wrong way." I like to call them "sandpaper people." Sandpaper people come in all shapes, sizes, and colors and can be found everywhere we go. We try to tolerate them, run from them or ignore them. When those tactics fail, we resort to trying to "fix" them. None of these methods work in the long run.

I have good news! God's truth is relevant for every need in our life and He has a plan for effectively dealing with the difficult people we encounter. God's plan is rooted in and flows from a deeppersonal relationship with Jesus Christ. When our relationship with God is right, every other relationship in our life has the potential to be right. Notice the word "potential" in the previous sentence. Knowing God's truths and applying God's truths are two entirely different matters. We can know the Bible from beginning to end but still fail when it comes to healthy relationships. The key is applying the Bible and acting on the principles it contains. We are called to wage peace and to pursue peace in every relationship - the easy ones as well as the hard ones. Jesus beautifully illustrated this truth in His selection of the twelve disciples. Have you ever stopped to consider what a diverse group of men they were? Among these twelve disciples were four fishermen, a tax collector, a religious zealot and a traitor - all very different, but all called to harmony by the One they followed. We are called to peace and harmony as well. I truly believe that our relationships should demonstrate the very nature, love and character of God. In fact, I would go so far as to say that when people examine our relationships and the way we treat each other, they should see Christ.

Sandpaper people desperately need someone to be "god with skin on" in their lives. You may be the very definition of God's love.
John 13:35 says it beautifully "Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples."

Today's GunnPoint
Presented by Randy Gunn
A dear friend of ours, a fellow Mounted Shooter, presented me with a book of poems entitled "Christ and the Cowboy."  She told me that the very first poem in the book reminded her of me because of the Cowboy Churches I was doing all over the country at the Mounted Shooting Events.  When she presented the book to me, and I read the poem she was referring to, it touched my heart deeply.

I have had many folks, over the years, tell me how much they were watching me and how they wanted to be a Christian like me.  Some may find that flattering, I found it extremely humbling.  I know what I am really like inside.  I understand completely what Paul meant when he wrote in Romans 7:18 - "For I know that in me...dwells no good thing..."

However, that is the beautiful thing about a life yielded to the work of Christ; a life that allows Jesus to come inside and dwell and live.  He can take a vessel like me, a vessel that needs cleaning and washing and has nothing but dirt and grime in it, and clean it up so others can taste the goodness of pure water that can flow out of it.  Because I have allowed Jesus to live in me, I now can say as Paul wrote in Galatians 2:20 - "It is no longer I who lives, but Christ that lives in me..." Any good that anyone sees in me is the goodness of Christ.

So, I present this poem to you as one who hates the badness of Randy, but loves the goodness of Christ. I am

proud to have been able to serve Christ over these years by bringing Him and His goodness and His Word to your lives.  Only Jesus could have made that possible, and to Him be glory and honor forever,  Amen.

"THE CIRCUIT RIDER"

Written by Kenneth Wyatt

A man he was, don't doubt you none,

Plumb clean thru, foot to head.

And not just size nor deeds he'd done,

Most was the things he'd said

Ah, big he was with a lop-side smile,

And gentle, too, you bet.

Ask him - he'd go that extra mile

A stranger never met.

"He's from south Texas," Papa believed.

"Comes 'bout twice a year.

Joy comes with him, and when he leaves,

The women shed a tear."

A claw hammer coat, a black felt hat,

Boots run down at the heel,

Proud on a tall bay horse he sat.

The Leather Book was real.

The Reverend, that was Mama's choice,

Preacher to all us rest.

But names didn't matter - just the voice

When certain you'd be blest.

Then, singin' he was at a fearsome pace;

The power of God was near.

That circuit rider led us to grace,

An' love shoved out the fear.

Sudden he'd open the Book leather bound.

Holy was the come true!

The birth, the death, then life all around,

Jesus' life plumb thru!

Glory came down and flooded the place;

Religion was right as rain.

You could see God's peace on every face;

Pardon washed every stain.

That man of the cloth could do it all -

Touched every child and man.

Listen close...you'd hear the angels call

From thrones in the promised land.

Then, baptizing done and scripture all taught

Plus, I guess, marryin' a few

The rider rode on - leavin one thought...

That "God loves 'specially you!"

God Bless You and God Bless America!

In Loving Memory

This edition of The GunnPoint Newsletter is dedicated to our sister-in-law, Michele, loving wife and mother, grandmother and dedicated Christian worker to thousands of "at risk" kids in Pontiac, MI as she partnered with my brother, John for years to change the lives of children in the middle of the housing projects.

Michele left us this past Wednesday morning to be with her Lord and Savior and friend, Jesus Christ.  The legacy she leaves behind are the thousands of children now grown, raising families and contributing to society in a meaningful way; giving others the gift of Jesus, Michele gave to them.

Michele and her work will be remembered in the movie, "Set Apart" and we are grateful for that.  The greatest way you can express your sympathies to my brother and his family; as well as keep Michele's work alive, is to send a monetary gift made payable to;

"Power Company Kids Club"

P.O. Box 432126

Pontiac, MI 48343

Your tax deductable gift will help "At Risk" kids from the projects, have a hope and future beyond the concrete prisons in which they live.  That was Michele's motive behind all her work with my brother.  To give children Jesus, and with Him comes hope and the power to change.

RECIPES

(Can be prepared gluten & dairy free)
     ALMOND BUTTER COOKIES

(Wheat Free-Dairy Free)
         Makes about 16 2" cookies
1/2 C almond butter
2 C  almond meal
(purchase at any
        natural food store)

6 tablespoons honey
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp almond extract

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
2. Place the almond butter in a bowl and mix with a fork or mixer to soften.
(If you opened the jar and the almond butter had separated, you'll need to mix the oil back together with the butter and then measure.)
3. Add the almond meal, honey and extracts and mix thoroughly.
4. Place parchment paper or a silicone baking sheet on a baking sheet. If you want, you can roll this dough between two pieces of parchment paper to 1/4" - 1/2" thick and cut with decorative cookie cutters. Or, you can just put all the dough on the baking sheet, pat it down to about 1/4" - 1/2" thick and then cut squares with a dull table knife. Either way, take the cut pieces and spread them out across the baking sheet, about 1/2" apart.

5. Bake 10-15 minutes, until golden brown and set aside. Cookies will crisp as they cool. Allow cookies to cool and store in an airtight container.

For crisper, harder cookies, bake them longer at a lower temperature.
